You've had a blast at Camp Shakespeare, or miss treading the boards with the Shakespeare Squadron.  Now what?  Why not two weeks of classical theater zaniness Shakespeare himself would sign up for in a New York minute?  Shakespeare drew his inspiration from everything from classical mythology and plays to the Italian commedia dell'arte.  We'll experiment with scenes and monologues from Greek theater, learn about commedia characters and try our hand at some Moliere.  We'll touch on contemporary playwrights that used classical text and Shakespeare as their inspiration, and create some scenes and monologues inspired by these sources.  This camp will also offer advanced acting technique – together your discoveries will form a perfect preparation for our advanced Fall/Spring program for teens, the remarkable Shakespeare Squadron!  This camp will culminate in an informal showing for friends and family.  Previous Shakespeare experience (Camp Shakespeare or Shakespeare Squadron) or approval of instructors required to enroll.

Special 2-Week Adventure!
Imagine discovering that you have an identical twin—with the same name!  Combine art and acting in a two-week camp and you can be part of Shakespeare’s slapstick play about mistaken identity, The Comedy of Errors.  In the morning, work with a Shakespeare Festival teacher and learn acting, improvisation and theatrical movement to make the play come to life.  Then in the afternoon, design and create costumes, sets and props with an artist in the studios of Craft Alliance.  Plenty of mad misadventures (and a happy ending too!) will all culminate in a theatre performance on the final day of the camp for family and friends.  Maximum 20 students.
