Northside Neighborhood Partnership

The Northside Neighborhood Partnership brings Shakespeare to the College Hill District through semester-long workshops and Education Tour performances at Bryan Hill and Clay Elementary Schools. A cross-curricular introduction to Shakespeare is provided for all 3rd grade students and SFSTL Teaching Artists work with 4th and 5th grade students on language and performance skills.  It all culminates in a "Share-formance" for friends, family and community. Students, families and teachers are invited to the Festival in Forest Park, with transportation provided by the Festival, where they are welcomed from the stage as Partners in Education.

City Academy Shakespeare

City Academy Shakespeare provides an opportunity for students, ages 6-11, to examine Shakespeare with Festival Teaching Artists to develop a 40-minute adaptation of a Shakespeare play. This semester-long partnership works with students from a variety of backgrounds to build community and increase academic skills.

Workshops

Breaking the Shakespeare Code

By “Breaking the Shakespeare Code” students learn to unlock and comprehend the wealth of information about characters and story which Shakespeare packs into his words.  Shakespeare wrote plays to be performed, and this inspiring workshop offers a process for students to gather the many ways Shakespeare uses poetry, prose, rhythm and sound as a foundation for character analysis and dramatic interpretation.  When revealed in this fun way, Shakespeare becomes a poetic playground for exploration and discovery!  For more information click here. To schedule, contact Tour Manager Patti Walley at 314-531-9800 x 108 or via email to pwalley@sfstl.com.

Bullies & Boundaries

This companion workshop to Cruel to be Kind? offers a natural springboard for activities, referencing the characters and situations within the play.  Guided by our trained Teaching Artists, students will discuss and role-play in a safe workshop environment, exploring the definition of a bully and methods for diffusing cruel behavior.  This follow-up workshop helps create a new awareness and a shared understanding of bullying while offering the participants some new ways to act more thoughtfully in their relationships.
