Green Show, Backstage Tours, Talk-Backs & After-Parties!

In addition to our popular Green Show and speakers series, Backstage Tours, 20-minute Talkbacks and Shakespeare “After Parties” at Marvin's will be the newest activities at this year’s Shakespeare Festival St. Louis!

Backstage Tours: Backstage tours will begin nightly at 6 p.m. and last approximately 20 minutes.  Participants will get a behind-the-scenes view of the Festival as they visit backstage, chat with stage crew, get a peek in the sound/lighting tent and maybe visit with an actor preparing for the show. Tickets are $2 (free for ages five and under) and are available on a first come, first served basis at the Information Tent at Shakespeare Glen in Forest Park.  School and community groups can arrange group tours at 5:30 p.m. - email climber@sfstl.com to set up your group tour.

The Green Show: We are lining up great entertainment for this season's Green Show...Juggling Jeff Koziatek and Josh Routh of Circus Kaput will be with us again this season, and our 20-minute Shrew in a Few! will play twice nightly.  Other entertainers include Joia, St. Louis Recorder Society, Aalim Dance Company, Greenleaf Madrigal Singers, Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundations' St. Louis Teen Talent Showcase Winners, Dotty, Tribe Ayaka, St. Louis Irish Arts, and Muny Kids!  If you are interested in being a Green Show entertainer, please email greenshow@sfstl.com.

Shakespeare Word Speaker Series: Join us nightly at 6:45 p.m. for informative and entertaining talks by:

  • Antony Hasler, Associate Professor of English, Saint Louis University
  • Jennifer Rust, Assistant Professor of English, SLU
  • Elizabeth Human, Adjunct Instructor of English, SLU
  • Lea Frost, Adjunct Instructor of English, Lindenwood University

Talkbacks: 20-minute Talkbacks will be held nightly following each performance (except Opening Night, 5/27).   The Talkback series, sponsored by Maryville University, invites audiences to participate in lively and enlightening conversations about the show and hear what fellow audience members think about the themes and ideas in The Taming of the Shrew. Talkbacks will begin about five minutes after the end of each performance; participating audience members are asked to gather in the green chairs in the center of the audience.

Marvin's: After Parties will be held after the show on Friday and Saturday nights (except Opening Night, 5/27) at Marvin’s, the new lounge named in honor of our founding chairman, Marvin Moskowitz. A different local band will play each night on the Green Show stage, and audience members are encouraged to stay for the music! Food and drinks will be available for purchase at Marvin’s, which is located in the Festival’s Lobby area at the top of Art Hill. If you would like to host a group at our Hospitality tent for an after party, please contact Brittany Compton: (314) 531-9800 x 106 or bcompton@sfstl.com.
