Shakespeare Festival St. Louis' 2009 production of The Merry Wives of Windsor (poster by Kiku Obata & Co.) featured a "St. Louis in the 1920s" look.
In Shakespeare’s only domestic comedy, laughter reigns supreme and feminine wisdom triumphs over jealous husbands, confused lovers, and one corpulent knight. The Merry Wives of Windsor tells the tale of Falstaff, an errant knight who arrives in Windsor in desperate need of money. Instead of searching for work, he plots to woo not one, but two wealthy women to support his way of life. What he doesn’t count on is the close friendship between the women, their penchant for pranks and his own disloyal servants. Disguises and complications abound as the two women teach Falstaff a loving lesson, complete with manipulative messengers, secret scandals, and a flurry of forgiveness.
