Assistant Producer: Administration
Description: Internship in Arts Administration
Reports to: Rick Dildine, Executive Director
Purpose: The Assistant Producer: Administration reports directly to the Executive Director and assists with all aspects managing a not-for-profit professional theatre company including strategic planning, production, policy development, personnel and fiscal management, and meeting preparation. In the fall semester, this position runs from September-December and requires 15-20 hours a week. In the spring semester, an intern is required from January-June working 20-25 hours a week.
Responsibilities:
•    Assists in producing the Main Stage production
•    Supports the Executive Director in  day-to-day activities
•    Prepares supplemental materials for board and staff meetings
•    Manages calendars, scheduling, and travel itineraries.

Assistant Producer: Development
Description: Internship in Development
Reports to: Melaine Bennett, Director of Development
Purpose:  The Assistant Producer: Development supports the Director of Development with day-to-day administration and special projects primarily in the areas of fundraising, grant writing, and the general development of a non-profit arts organization. Duties include supporting special events and development leading up to and at the Festival, including Opening Night Press & Dignitaries Party and nightly Tent Parties. Additional tasks may be added based on Festival needs and intern’s interests and career focus. The internship will run from January-September and requires a commitment of 20-25 hours a week.
Responsibilities:
Special Events
•    Assists with all projects in support of the Festival’s special events.
•    Helps coordinate the Fall Gala
•    Attends special events and provides support as needed.
Development/Festival
•    Assists with invitations to Festival Tent Nights: corporate, foundation, individuals, press/dignitaries
•    Research various issues pertaining directly to strategic planning and policy development
•    Supports all areas of the development team
•    Prepare supplemental materials for sponsorships, grants, etc.

Assistant Producer: Education
Description: Internship in Arts Education
Reports to: Christopher Limber, Education Director
Purpose: The Education Administration Intern assists the Education Director and Festival staff with day-to-day administration and special projects in the area of Education administration. Duties include supporting the Education Tour; assisting with marketing and special events; coordinating education research projects; organizing education files; special projects aligned with the intern’s interests and career focus. In the fall semester, this position runs from September-December and requires 15-20 hours a week. In the spring semester, an intern is required from January-June working 20-25 hours a week.
Responsibilities:  Various duties in regards to administration and marketing of various Education programming, including our Tour, Shakespeare Squadron classes, workshops, residencies, and summer camps.

Assistant Producer: Marketing
Description: Internship in Marketing
Reports to: Laura Coppinger, Marketing Assistant
Purpose: The Assistant Producer in Marketing supports the marketing team with day-to-day tasks during the production of the summer Festival. Duties include creating press kits, distributing media releases, and working as a press liaison at Shakespeare Glen. This position runs from January- June and requires 20-25 hours per week.
Responsibilities:
•    Assists with website maintenance, coordinating blog and photo archives, and maintaining social networking sites.
•    Assists with press releases, newsletter and poster distribution, as well as the preparation and distribution of Media kits.
•    Assists with inputting and cleaning data in Festival’s donor database (Raiser’s Edge) as needed.
•    Works as a press liaison at the Festival

Assistant Producer: Production
Description: Internship in Production Management
Reports to: Kelly O'Connell, Production Manager
Purpose: The Assistant to the Production Manager reports directly to the Production Manager and assists with all aspects of the management of a not-for-profit professional theatre company including; strategic planning, policy development, personnel and budget management, contracts, meeting preparation and plenty of hands on work.  this position runs from December - June, 20 - 25 hours per week.
Responsibilities: Various duties related to our mainstage production in Forest Park and various special events, including auditions, company management, load in and load out, etc., as well as facilities management in our warehouse.

Shakespeare Festival St. Louis Internship Program 

Shakespeare Festival St. Louis, one of the city’s leading arts institutions, believes that internships are a collaborative, hands-on learning experience between an organization and an individual. SFSTL internships are unpaid unless otherwise noted.  Internships are available during Fall, Spring and Summer semesters:

  • Fall:  September – December
  • Spring:  January – June
  • Summer:  July – August
Where Are They Now?

Carolanne Morgan was the Artistic Administration Intern during her final semester at Webster Conservatory in 2010. After graduation, she headed out to the corn fields to serve as the Company Manager at The Little Theatre on the Square.  Carolanne worked as the Production Stage Manager for the national tour of All Shook Up, then returned to St. Louis to Stage Manage SFSTL's 2011/2012 Education Tour - but now she has decided to run off and join the circus:  Cirque de Soleil's oVo Touring Show, to be precise!

Melinda Crecelius was fall 2009's Education Administration Intern as she completed her Masters in Theatre Education from Fontbonne University.  In addition to her internship, Melinda worked with SFSTL in our City Academy / Northside Neighborhood Partnership and Metro Youth Shakespeare program.  In 2010, she moved to Louisville, KY, accepting a position with Kentucky Shakespeare, the nation's oldest free Shakespeare festival, and is currently their Education Programs Manager.

Emilee Buchheit was the Artistic Administrative Intern for the Shakespeare Festival from October 2007 - May 2008.  After receiving her degree in Stage Management from Webster University in May 2008, Emilee returned to the Festival for the 2009 season as the Assistant Stage Manager.  She is now a freelance Equity Stage Manager in the St. Louis area, and has worked as SM and ASM at several different regional theatres across the country.  Emily recently returned to SFSTL to act as SM for our 2011 production of The Taming of the Shrew!

Jessica LaBozzetta was the Festival’s PR intern in 2006 during her senior year at Saint Louis University. Upon graduation, she was hired as SFSTL's Communications Coordinator, handling media relations and event planning. In fall 2007, she took a position as Special Events Coordinator at the Nine Network of Public Media (KETC / PBS), where she now plans over 50 events annually, from luncheons to large premieres. Jessica works with the SLU Young Alumni Association and is active in the St. Louis theatre community.

Michael B. Perkins was our Acting Intern for the Festival's 2007 Education Tour, and never left.  In addition to being a regular member of SFSTL's touring troupe from 2008 - 2012, Michael works with the Festival's Education Department Metro Youth Shakespeare, Shakespeare Squadron and Summer Shakespeare Camps.  He can be seen in theatres all around the metro area and also provides graphic design services to the Festival; visit his website at www.michaelbperkins.com.
